As part of a push to clean up graffiti and tagging in the Greenwood-Phinney neighborhood, the chamber, through a new program called “Art Up Greenwood-Phinney” is seeking business/building owners permission to have volunteers paint-out vandalism when it occurs on your building. The PERMISSION WAIVER, must be signed ONLY by the person who is responsible for the maintenance of your exterior building (i.e. the building owner or business owner).  Should you have specific instructions regarding the exterior of your building such as: “Only use matching paint kept at place of business, please contact John Doe before painting out”, please be sure to note this on the waiver in a prominent area.  Volunteers will not be able to paint-out on unpainted stone, brick, glass, metal or wood.

If you sign the PERMISSION WAIVER with no specific instructions, volunteers will paint out the graffiti with the closest match to the color of your paint, however, colors are limited to whites, grays, and beiges.  This may still be a preferable choice for your exterior, as the tagging can be covered up and then at your convenience you may paint over it with your matching paint. Remember, the vandal’s objective is to have others see their “tag” name. Vandals are drawn to walls that are not cleaned immediately because it means their “tag” will be up longer and seen by more people. Covering graffiti as soon as possible, prevents your property from becoming known as a good site among vandals.

Another part of the new Art Up Greenwood-Phinney program includes creating some murals for our neighborhood by working with youth and artists in our local community. If you have a wall that would be a good candidate for the Art Up program, please contact us by emailing: artup@greenwood-phinney.com or by calling (206) 789-1148.

Download the PERMISSION WAIVER here.  After signing the waiver, please fax or mail the form to the Greenwood-Phinney Chamber. Fax number: (206) 233-2654; mailing address: PO Box 30715, Seattle, WA 98103.
